Re: Cabin Heat and C02

Thanks for sharing your story and being candid about what happened. It's a great lesson and very interesting to hear how the diferent CO detectors reacted to both CO exposure and location within the cockpit.

Re: How to search this site?

Dick, This thread/discussion began over a year ago. Dave was just updating his previous msg regarding how to use Google for a search engine. The topic of air/oil separators is not a current discussion. Dave??? It must be my week for name typos... someone at work sent out an email referring to me as...

Re: How to search this site?

Someone PM'd me about a problem they were having searching the forums via Google since the upgrade. If you use Google for forum searching you need to make a small change... when specifying the domain to search you need to change from "cessna170.org" to now using "cessna170.org/forums/...

Re: Instrument Panel refurbishment C170

Yes. Joy Warren from the Cessna 120-140 Ass'n makes these and does an excellent job. I had her make one for me when I refurb'd the panel on my '52. She can produce the original, but can also accomodate custom lettering (if, say, you changed the function of a switch like I did) and can change the hol...

Re: Any interest in new shock panel cover assy.?

I'd certainly be interested in new/original panels as well... particularly if they were aluminum.

Re: Built-in Intercom

These were regular Telex PTTs with the plug attached. We cut if off and hard wired it.

Re: Built-in Intercom

Mine are hard wired and work great. I like not having to worry about any extra wires hanging around. I used two Telex PTTs. I mounted them "backward" on the yokes - i.e. with the switch on the back side of the yoke so I can hit it with my index finger. We drilled a hole through the panel o...

Re: I give up... contol wheels

Any place that does chrome work can chrome them they just have to have the capability to bake them @ 350 deg for 3-4 hours to remove excess hydrogen (re: hydrogen embrittlement) which is a by product of the chroming process. I had mine done at a relatively local chrome shop that specializes in antiq...

Re: Annual inspection and options

An annual inspection expires on the last day of the month it is due. You didn't say when your annual was due, but if it is March, then you are still legal to fly it until March 31. Just looking at the squawk list quickly I'd say he's milking it.... one hour to replace a ground wire? two hours to rep...

Re: I give up... contol wheels

Rich, Control wheels, whether original 170 or any other type, can generally be found in salvage yards, e-auctions, or from some association members who are willing to sell. They are certainly available. As for refinishing, as other have mentioned stripping and repainting them, along with rechroming ...

Kyle's GPS mount

Posting this for Kyle... This is a GPS mount for the Garmin 196 that I fabricated and installed. It works well and stays out of the way but is still within comfortable viewing. What I did was the following.... Under the pilots side panel, top trim plate (part number & name at home in the book) a...

Doug- I have never seen the straps on a 195 like you mention but my 1958 C-180 has them and were original from the factory. The ends are a simple casting and should not be hard to make out of brass. Belt buckle manufacturers would be a good place to start. Anacortes Brass Works used to be one in An...
