Re: 1948 170 Tailwheel Bushing Replacement

Thank you so much for your replies. After talking with other pilots on the field with 170’s I saw everything from “well I don’t have a piece there at all”, to rubber pieces, to aluminum pieces. I decided to leave on our rubber piece as it seems to do the job well even though it’s still a little bit ...

1948 170 Tailwheel Bushing Replacement

Hello, While servicing the tailwheel springs I noticed that the bushing that holds the front of the springs has been warped and bent. It looks to me like it’s made out of aluminum, but when I look the part up in the parts catalog it says that this piece is supposed to be rubber? Can anyone tell me w...

Re: Metal flakes in the C-145

I just purchased and installed my TEMPEST SPIN EZ oil filter (PN AA48108-2) and she fit GREAT! However, as I attempted to put in my oil temperature probe into the back of the oil transfer cylinder I realized that the oil probe was too big to fit in the hole! The tip of the oil probe goes in fine, bu...

Re: Metal flakes in the C-145

Gahorn and Joe, Thank you for the input. I'm already looking at filters that I want to install. Trying to decide how much room I have in the engine compartment. Hopefully my 10 hour check goes well. Flew again yesterday. The engine is still running great! I would be lying if I said I wasn't nervous ...

Metal flakes in the C-145

As I was about to go for a nice Monday breakfast yesterday I had a sinking feeling in my stomach like I was forgetting something important. I checked my oil change log and noticed that I was overdue for an oil change of my 1948 Cessna 170 with a C-145. I usually change the oil every 30 hours, but I ...

Re: Landing Light Upgrade

Thank you for all of your responses. DS, I think I'm definitely leaning more towards keeping the original light. I have not had any problems with mine yet, but I wanted to get your opinion on preventative maintenance for the light. Should I leave the Grimes un-tampered if I have not had any problems...

Re: Avionics Switch/Radio Interruptions

I have an external intercom that is not built into the panel. The unit is a two place flightcom. Update on the situation is that I messed with some wires (moved them around, made sure all connections were tight) and the problem was fixed for my next three flights. Last night, the problem came back a...

Do you not recommend making the switch and sticking with what I have?

Landing Light Upgrade

I have a 1948 Cessna 170 with the original Grimes Mechanism 12V light. I love how bright it is, but it shoots my ammeter far left whenever I turn it on. I'm worried that one of these nights it's going to kill my battery on final, so I am looking for a more energy efficient replacement without killin...

Avionics Switch/Radio Interruptions

For the last few weeks my radio has been making fluttering noises once I try to use my mic. I start my engine, roll out to the ramp, get my ATIS, and then when I call the tower I get a fluttering noise when I talk through the radio as I hold down the mic button. I would compare the noise to a loud b...
