Re: New 170B owner

well, its anual time again for our N138WW. Our families have put another 125 hours on it with no problems and many fantastic memories. We took it to Gastons for a great week of fishing among omany other trips. This year is an easy anual with onlt the 500 hour mag check and a few other minor items. N...

Re: How to install seat belts

This is worth a read for anyone considering adding harness to an aircraft that was born without. This was supplied to me by the great folks at BAS.

BUMMER, the file is too large. Here is a link:

Re: anyone recognize this seat belt buckle?

m_4.jpg This is the current version of that attachment as supplied by Pacific Scientific belts. This installation is in a vintage Waco but I have seen these installed in quite a few aircraft. In your assembly, the pin is on the shoulder harness portion. In this one, the shoulder harness has the slo...

Re: Avcon Lord engine mounts replacement...

Just noticed that this thread was for the Avcon Lycoming fire wall forward. The engine mounts I noted in the previous post is for the stock continental o-300. They are: 06-02038 TCM 23411 BUSHING-ENGINE MOUNT. NOT the lycoming mounts. Sorry Mod’s Note: These post were Split from an Avcon and a New O...

Re: New 170B owner

Hey the hard to find engine mounts ( 06-02038 TCM 23411 BUSHING-ENGINE MOUNT 76.926ea 307.70/Set) are now available from Aircraft spruce. At least my long backordered set has been shipped. Just a heads up as I found these to be unobtanium everywhere back in Sept when we were doing our annual. If you...

Now need to figure out why they get turned on their sides. But these are pictures of the tail. Dirty one after years of sitting in the back of a hange...

Re: New 170B owner

Just got done with our first annual on N138WW. Just a couple small surprises and two months later it is back in the air. Picture is of the tailcone area. I am embarrassed to admit that I had missed this during my prebuy. I had boroscoped everywhere I could think of but failed to go through the rudde...

Re: Alcor TCP

I know this is an old thread. I have been using TCP for years in just the low HP (below 200) Continentals. I have read here that some folks believe, Continental included, that the 100 octane valves solve the problem of lead deposits and valve sticking. I do not agree with that. I ran a shop for 25 y...

Re: New 170B owner

I totally agree. I have used AC 23-27 on many occasions including some old parts on vintage aircraft such as fuel valves on old Waco's etc. This has been a great boon for us vintage folks. I also agree that there are things to worry about, and things NOT to. Being ramp checked and "busted"...

Re: New 170B owner

I actually ran a resoration shop for almost 25 years. We installed a bunch of STCs, and also did quite a few field approvals which in this day and age is no easy feat. I received a field approval on a Boeing Stearman for a 4 aileron installation and the paperwork weighed an honest 10 pounds. The iss...

Re: New 170B owner

Thanks Brian for the link. I tried a set of bulbs very similar to this on a vintage Waco and i did have issues with interference. It is interesting how they can work on one plane and not the next. Thanks to all for info on success with Aeroled. I will call them manyana. I did get an immediate return...

Re: New 170B owner

Ok thanks a bunch. I will take another look. I saw their replacement bulbs and the 12 volts said exprimental only, but i need to give them a call. I am really not worried about the pma or faa thing, as long as they WORK:) Cant turn off the nav lights everytime you need to talk on the radio. If you h...

Re: New 170B owner

I have not seen any AeroLED replacement bulbs that are STCed. You can purchase an STCed replacement assembly as a whole unit, but we already have the piggyback strobe set up and this would not make sense. If AeroLED makes an STCed LED bulb for nav lights, I have not seen it. Am I missing something?

Re: New 170B owner

I agree that somehow the electrical components in these LED bulbs can and do cause this interference. I guess we really can not bust on the FEDS for not embracing this technology, if it doesn't work. It is a bummer that the manufacturers of these bulbs are not addressing the specific needs of aviati...
