Re: IFR Capable 170's
Richard, you just described exactly how I would use an IFR rating. I appreciate your response! I also appreciate that basic IFR flying can be done in these fine planes.

Re: IFR Capable 170's
Thanks for the good discussion! If I get a new rating, I am the kind of person that wants to use the rating. Honestly my desire to fly tailwheel is greater than getting the IFR rating, that said, I will probably start the process next year. I just want to be able to continue to use the skill, even i...

IFR Capable 170's
How many of you have certified IFR planes and utilize the certification to punch through a layer of clouds or file to just stay current? I love flying tailwheels! I really enjoy flying the 170 I have access to (my club has a 170). At some point, I want to own a tailwheel and would like to get an IFR...

Re: Yoke vs Stick
Fun conversation! I did like flying the stick when training in the Citabria. I was concerned that it would take a bit to get used to flying with my right hand . Funny thing was, it was very natural and I was flying with the stick as easily as the yoke in my left. I think the stick is more intuitive ...

Re: Club w/TW
Welcome to Michigan, Bryce! I haven't been here very long myself. I'm at the Brighton Airport (45G), about 60 miles south of Bay City. I found a couple of rental taildraggers in the area but never got around checking them out. There was a Rans at Lapeer (I think) just of Flint, and a Luscombe down ...

Re: Club w/TW
Not surprising. Not too many pilots, who love their planes, would give them up. Owning a plane allows a lot of freedom.Bruce Fenstermacher wrote: But when it comes down to it, no one wants to give up their aircraft.

Re: Club w/TW
I looked into starting a club with a 140. The insurance was astronomical cuz it was a taildragger. I did look into this back in Ohio. I was looking at insuring a Luscombe 8A with a 6 member club. The insurance actually wasn't too bad. Each pilot needed to spend 10hrs with instructor with at least 2...

Re: Club w/TW
Congratulations Bryce! You have found a really rare treasure. I don't think I have ever seen a 170 in a flying club. Where is the flying club located? Thanks! I recently took a new job in Michigan. I was checking out clubs on the rare chance that one would have a TW to fly and build time in (I just...

It's not too often that you find a club with a Tailwheel, let alone C170A. But the stars aligned and I found one! I finished checking out in this beauty today!

Greetings! My name is Bryce and I am a new member. I am from Sandusky, OH. I currently fly out of Lorain Co (KLPR), and I am a member of a flying club called Discover Aviation. The club currently has a Cessna 172D with the 180 conversion and a constant speed prop. I am also getting my tailwheel endo...
