Flying heavy
I have 20 hours on my 170 now. I flew at max gross yesterday and when on short final, tower could not accomodate a "land long" that I was expecting to get so had to modify my approach to reach the numbers. Of course I was a little high(300') and had to chop power and increased airspeed a b...

Re: Landing problems, bounces...
It's just a fact that the aileron authority gets more sluggish with the low airspeeds on rollout. You just have to get more aggressive and use more deflection, which can feel kind of weird if you have the original control wheels and you're used the more modern ram's horn design found in modern Cess...

Landing problems, bounces...
I finally finished my 4 year project and now I have been released for solo. I was taught to 3 point and still I am learning it. My problem is I sometimes feel that the roll control is too sluggish during flare when coming in at 70mph short final 20 deg flap and it is hard to keep wings level to prev...

Where to get cylinders O/H, is it worth it or buy brand new?
I'm thinking of overhauling the O-300a some cylinders when I go to the USA, where is the best place to send it in the west coast? Or should I just buy brand new?

Where to O/H carb and mags for O-300a, gyros, instruments
Any suggestions around the west coast would be appreciated. I'll be arriving in Las Vegas in 2 days and will be in the country for 17 days only. So a quick shop is what I need.

O-300-C/D STC donated to TIC170A
Well, just opened up the case and seems like the crank will be junk. Will have to get it NDT'd together with the case, cam and the rods. All the gears will have to be inspected too. It will definitely need more work than I initially expected. All cylinders will have to be replaced too. Who has the o...

Guys, the plane has been through general inspection by our mechanic and he says that the airframe seems ok and should only require minor repairs. It has been painted internally and seems clean for it's age. It has been stored in a hangar for the past 10 years. The only thing that we have not really ...

non pickeled engine sitting 12+ years, what to do
I'm looking at a 1956 172 with 4700tt and 1200soh located in the Philippines and it has not flown since 1997 for an annual but last flown regularly in 1991. There is no compression on the cylinders(which were remans already when it was installed in 1997) and the owner wants to sell it as is where is...

battery box movement
My mechanic doing the rebuild of my 170 says that the battery box seems to move alot when the box is wiggled. So much so that the firewall actually bends/ flexes up and down about 3/4" when moved. Is this normal or is there a beefup kit that can be installed to strengthen it? Just worried that ...

JPI 700 probe questions?
Which one do I need, bayonet or washer type cht probe? Also how far down the exhaust manifold can I place the egt probe? Mechanic says that it will hit the clamps if 4" is followed on the O-300A. Can it be installed at 2"? Will the probe be too hot possibly damaging it?

pricing differences?
Can someone mention how much either Benhams or Bartones go for currently? I am interested in getting either one. I'm in the philippines and would appreciate any help so I won't waste too much time on the phone in long distance charges. Thanks.
