Re: 170A Exhaust Replacement

I had to replace my "pancake" style exhaust a year or two ago, and AWI provided a great product. I had to get the cross-brace from a different source since the pancake style didn't have one, and the brackets to attach the cross-brace to the pipes too. I've been happy with the product and r...

Re: pre-buy inspection near San Luis Obispo, CA

Jason, A friend of mine has a C-180 & Swift based at SLO. If you want me to pass on your info to him so he can send you some information, e-mail me and I'll forward it to him. He's lived in SLO for many years and should be able to direct you to/away from certian maintenance shops. Mike mikesmith...

Re: Camping under the wing etiquette

Bill, I replaced both my fuel sump/drains at the last annual. I had a friend standing there to help with the parts handoff (you could have a small table/tall stool to do the same, so parts are close at hand). You need to have the replacement part on hand, take out the current part and quickly stick ...

I bought one, it works great as a step, but not so well as a jackpad. It slips up the gear leg when the jack pushes up on it and cannot be depended on to stay in position. It is excellent in the step capacity. When off-station I use it where the ladders are too short or too big to get close enough t...

Good luck finding one that isn't realllly expensive. I was going to do that when mine kicked the bucket ... but after looking at the prices I just overhauled my old DG.

Is this your home? If so, you interested in visitors? That is just a short hop from Grass Valley (KGOO). I'm maybe 80-90 miles north of you. It looks really cool.

The venturi has little to do with the pitot/static check, but since the inspector is poking around under the panel, I like to ask them to give it a close check. I want to know if something doesn't look right or looks like it might need some maintenance attention. I don't want "just" a pito...

Pitot Static

Any one in Northern California have a favorite avionics shop they'd like to recommend for a pitot/static check? Preferably one familar with venturi vacuum systems.

Thanks,

Doug, I hope I didn't sound dismissive and rude ... sometimes these electronic forums convey an unintended "feeling". Please accept my apology, that was not my intent. Anyway, I'm not using it in the 170. I tried it in the 170 out of curiousity, and, like you said, it's not up to the task ...

As for the QC2 and the UFlyMike option... 1. It doesn't have the PNR of a regular aviation headset. Which is why it is much more comfortable for 3-6 hours of wearing. 2. Even with the ANR turned on it doesn't offer the overall noise reduction of the Headset X or any other ANR avaition headset in tha...

I've just had the opportunity to try a few headsets. My originals (which I still like) are DC's with the flex boom mic and Oregon Aero head pad and ear pads. The only reason I have starting looking around is that on long XC's the noise level has started to bother me. I tried the Lightspeed 30-3g and...

If I have a slow rolling start to the T/O then I can sometimes just rudder it down the runway. If I have to come to a complete stop and I didn't get it perfectly aligned, or if there is a little crosswind, then I need a jab or two of the brake to keep it straight - but only at the very beginning of ...

I just saw a menu for the new restaurant at Yuba County Airport (MYV). There has been one in the past, then out of business ... but it's now back in business. My hangar neighbor said the food is good, as soon as I get a chance to try it out I'll send back a report.
