Damaged valve guides?
I've been having some intermittent rough running engine issues at first start up which always clears up after a few minutes. The last time it happened the engine was shut down after 30 seconds and a cold number 2 and 4 cylinders were observed be feeling of them by hand compared to the other four. I ...

Re: Acid wash, then polish?
Actually I did try acid washing and polishing a small test spot on a flap and was quite pleased with the results. that was two and a half years ago and the flap hasn't dissolved away since then.

Re: Acid wash, then polish?
Yes, the reason I want to acid wash the bottom of the wings and horizontals is to remove the oxidation. My question is...is a good pressure washing enough to neutralize the acid wash. I won't be using alodine.

Acid wash, then polish?
Hello All, I have a 52B model that still is bare aluminum and mostly original paint. The paint is flaking, but it doesn't seem to affect how it flies. When I got it in the fall of 2013, I went gung-ho polishing the fuselage rudder, and the upper side of the stab and elevator, with a few test spots d...

Re: Generator trouble
A couple of weeks ago I left my master switch on, and had a dead battery the next time I went out to fly. After charging the battery the generator didn't charge. I then repolarized the generator and it charged again. Lesson learned....Don't use a piece of safety wire and hold it on the BAT and ARM t...

Re: C 170 in Museum?
Obviously, we don't know the extent of the corrosion, but I was also bummed when I saw that the paint was stripped. As we all know, original factory paint is extremely rare. Not to knock the museum, but it seems odd to me that this is one of the best type associations in the world, with a wealth of...

Wheel pants in winter?
It's my first winter with the pants on here in NE Wi. Just wondering what the general opinion is here on the forum about pants during winter concerning snow/slush freezing and causing problems.

Re: Struts in windshield area?
Thanks for the answer. Is this modification precautionary, or is there slight inherent weakness in the 170 cabin design?

Struts in windshield area?
Just curious. Why do I see braces/struts above the dash board/behind the windshield in some 170 videos? Is this a modification, and for what purpose?

Re: trim
I'm no expert on flying the 170, as I've only had my B model since last fall, but basically I don't even use my trim. I found that flaps applied when power is reduced keeps the plane in trim.

Re: Playing with the Go Pro and the B
So where do you fly out of? Have we met? Got a pic of your 170? I might recognize it. Scott I don't think we have met, I just saw your vids surfing YouTube a few weeks ago and noticed your location. I don't currently own an airplane but I'm going to go look at a 53' 170B in early July which is what...
