Re: Windows 8, Windows 8, what about it we don't apprectiate

A couple of years ago, I used to say that I love Apple for everything, but I'll never own a Mac. Now, after having owned one, I'll never own a PC again. You never need to worry about what created a file on a Mac. You can open almost anything! Spell check is built-in, without installing a single pro...

Re: Windows 8, Windows 8, what about it we don't apprectiate

It sucks. I hate it. I hate anyone/everyone who dreamed up this stoopid program. It may finally be what drives me over to Apple. The two reasons I use Windows is because at work I must. The Windows computer at home is use primarily for looking up something on the web, quick note taking, using the c...

Re: Introduction

I signed up on this site several years ago but never posted. I owned N5486C, an A model, from '79 to '84. Built about 300 hours time in it in quest of my ultimate pilot career, (Which I attained, BTW :D ) before finally selling it. My wife and I have owned several airplanes in the meantime. We just...

Re: Blind Aviation Enthusiast

When you meet these people be sure to tell them you are looking for ways you can participate. Don't be afraid to ask them for ideas. I'll bet there is an EAA chapter somewhere maybe close by. These chapters could be another way you can meet people and participate. You just want to hang around aviat...

Re: Blind Aviation Enthusiast

When your networking you can not talk to or meet enough people. The instructors, specially the school owners usually have a good idea what's going on and who is who at he airport. I mention Emery Riddle because they are big. Spruce Creek rings a bell. I may know someone who lives there, I just have...

Re: Blind Aviation Enthusiast

I did some research on-line and checked out Massey Ranch Airpark. On airnav.com, it's listed as an airport open to the public. When I did a google search I was taken to a site for buying and selling property in this area. It appears to be an community that allows pilots to park their planes near the...

Re: Blind Aviation Enthusiast

Bruce, I'm going to answer all your posts in one message. My primary method of getting around is public transportation. Unfortunately, Deland is not really accessible for me to get there. I'm restricted to teh east sie of the county which includes the cities of Daytona Beach, Port Orange, South Dayt...

Re: Blind Aviation Enthusiast

I took the plunge and joined the association tonight. I can see the folks are friendly around here, adn I'll spend many hours getting to know everyone. After reading Miles's posts, I read the information about the event in Kentucky. If the details can be worked out, I'l be there. Check the event thr...

Re: Radio Question

Richard, You're correct I'm not a pilot. I have listened to ATC communications for years, and know some of how it works. I don't know everything! I've been researching this topic all day. All of my research has confirmed what you said. The FCC doesn't state things very clearly. In the description fo...

Re: Blind Aviation Enthusiast

I have that time free. It takes a lot for me to attend any kind of convention, and I've never attended an aviation one.
Can I post here what I'd ned to make this happen?

Re: Blind Aviation Enthusiast

I'd love that, to be able to fly a plane on my own.
Until that happens I'll continue to learn all I can about aviation, and go up with someone whenever I can.

Radio Question

I have a question about aircraft communication rules. I've researched this on-line, and have found nothing. While I was visiting Alaska last week, I took several flights in small planes. While listening to the unicom frequency, I'd had things like, "Mark are you in the air?" This indicated...

Re: Blind Aviation Enthusiast

I haven't participated in any fly-ins at all. I'm interested in anything related to flying. Most of my flying experience has been going up in a plane, flying around for a bit, and returning to the originating airport. A few times I flew somewhere for teh weekend, or for a few hours. My knowledge of ...

Blind Aviation Enthusiast

I realize introductions are not the norm around here, and I'm not even sure if there's a place for this one either. I'll take the risk, because you'll know the perspective from which I'm posting, especially when I ask a lot of questions. My name is Matt Roberts, and have been blind since birth. Bein...
