Re: Looking for this 170
It looks like we have a winner! Clinton Melin of Palmer, AK (just a coincidence?) has come forward and claimed the prize (bragging rights to more of his plane's history). According to Mr. Melin, 2947D has been repaired and is in the paint shop getting beautified. I wonder which color he has chosen, ...

Re: Restoration Progress
After the final pressure wash, apply alodine according to mfg. instructions and then rinse again thoroughly. After the surface is dry, I apply Dupont strontium chromate two-part epoxy primer. I use the Imron system when painting, you will need to use the primer recommended by the paint manufacturer ...

Re: Restoration Progress
Hi JKelly: I'm not Dillon, but I've cleaned a few planes in my time. Aluma-bright /Aluma-prep, et al is basically phosphoric acid. I use 1 pint to 2 gallons of water and put in some dish detergent to act as a wetting agent. Spray it on, wait for it to foam, scrub with a plastic bristle brush and the...

Re: How airplanes are REALLY made
Northwest Regional, Roanoke,TX is where both of these incidents occurred. It's also where the C172 clipped the SUV in the now famous YouTube video. Really, this airport sounds like its dangerous to go in and out of. At least four plane v plane collisions in the past 10 years and one plane v SUV. Sur...

Re: How airplanes are REALLY made
Couple of years back, a Warrior landed on top of a C150 in Roanoke , TX. Used to have the picture of it as my computer wallpaper. They contacted on final and both planes made it to the ground safely. (I think though that the 150 was slightly over gross at that point!) I can't find a link to it, but ...

Re: Looking for this 170
We can't locate any other photos. Called all the family members and checked before I originally posted to this forum. There are still three other possibles, two of which are still flying. I emailed Tom Kelly (Arrow T Land and Cattle)Prescott, AZ, and asked him to check his log books for 2949D and em...

Re: Looking for this 170
Update: The CD's arrived with the all the registration data and, as luck would have it, neither Roesbery's plane, nor the other hopeful turned out to be "THE ONE". In fact, Mr. Roesbery may be interested to know that his plane has almost exclusively been based in Alaska and only made it as...

Re: Gill G25S Rant
I haven't followed your troubles but I have had issues with my G25. So much so that I spent a good deal of time talking (bitching) to the Gill rep at the 2011 AOPA Summit in Hartford. Basically, a one hour charge is not going to bring the battery back, nor is simply flying for an hour or two. If you...

Re: Life is hard in CA
Aryana: Pretty awesome video. Kinda reminded me of the first time I flew my 150, transitioning from a 172 that had much heavier control pressures! After managing to get the plane back down on the ground and slowing my heart rate down to something approximating 3x my age, I tried it again. Much more ...

Re: Looking for this 170
Well, the CD for N2940D has been purchased, it'll take a couple weeks to get here and then we'll know about this one. In the meantime, I'm going to keep the issue alive by attempting to contact the two owners that are not members and the owners of the two planes that were de-registered/expired.

Re: Comm Radio Reception Issue
Fred: It was a great suggestion and makes real good sense. Put new ends on the coax but had the same issues. Put the radio in another plane wired for the SL30 to eliminate possibility of my plane being the problem. Got the dreaded COM FAILURE message. Off to Garmin she goes. Thanks everybody for the...

A friend of mine has a C 145 off a project Swift he just bought. Supposedly overhauled and never installed. He is going to be listing it on ebay soon since he will be upgrading to a larger engine. Email me at john (at) richmondoxygen.com and I'll send you his contact info if you are interested. John

Re: Looking for this 170
And you never got the FAA data on CD which shows every owner since the airframe was registered and all form 337s sent to them? He asked incredulously. Heck I'll buy it just to take a look and then send it to you if there is a remote possibility that this is the same plane. Looks like I'm going to b...
