Why I fly

I bought my 170 three years ago with zero time in my log book and a dream of flying. Yes, I put the cart before the horse! I quickly found that my dream would turn into a long and complex endeavor. My first flight with my 79 year old instructor was not a fun or fond memory. I became very air sick an...

Re: Cracked cylinder

Okay so the Superior cylinder seems to be available from several suppliers for about the same cost of $788. Guess it comes down to service and I'm sure most are great suppliers but looking for a little assurance in a choice. How about J&J?

Cracked cylinder

Annual inspection today revealed a cracked cylinder. My IA suggested I find an overhauled cylinder but my search finds new costs are not much more. Seems to be several choices and opinions on which one to get. I am 590 hrs SMOH. I do want to find something available for immediate shipment. Suggestio...

Re: Wheel Bearings/Brake Disk

I am having trouble finding the aluminum/felt seal for 600x6 wheels. All other parts seem to be available from spruce but this seal is not listed. Mine has about half the felt missing. Please help!

Re: Bolt Kit for a 170

I have searched aircraft spruce and others for the part numbers listed in the thread but cannot find a match. Where can I find the bolt, washer, and nut?

Re: Bolt Kit for a 170

Clearly my 1948 170 has incorrect bolts in the vert stabilizer if the pics in earlier post have the correct ones. I know this is an old post but wonder if anything ever came of Del's offer to put together a fastener package for 170's? Where can I get the correct bolts for my stabilizer bracket and i...

Re: Landing light

I have found many posts about our Grimes retractable landing lights but cannot find where anyone has answered the previous question in this post about replacing with LED bulb. Is there a drop in replacement?

Re: Fuel flow

We did a few tests today on fuel flow. Timed the flow at Gascolator in left, right, and both and then repeated the test with the fuel caps off. Right and left were within one second of each other to catch one liter with caps on and off. Both position was faster by two seconds. Off position - no flow...

Re: Fuel flow

WOW! Thanks Dan; will try the flow test today and check/install cotter pin in lever. I believe, of all the investment into my 170, joining this organization has been the best decision made. The information on the forum is priceless and the quick response of members with such detailed suggestions and...

Re: Fuel flow

Yes my 170 has been modified with a second tank on the left side to match the configuration on the right. So Bruce are you saying I likely do not have a problem? Although 170's all exhibit this problem of using more fuel from one tank, would you not think it excessive to have burned half a tank from...
