I'd be able to install those dual puck brakes that are sitting in my hangar waiting now almost three months for a field approval. :(

As far as takeoff in a B I can say that with the 180hp 10 degrees of flaps really shorten the takeoff and the power will allow it to keep climbing very nicely. With the C-145 and standard prop the 10 degrees didn't help much at all. The plane would get off maybe a little quicker but wouldn't climb o...

Re: Still need Doyn drawings.

I have a combined one (MP on left, fuel flow [which also has a red "10.0 psi" marking at the top]) on the right, which I guess is more Avcon-like than Doyn-like. Interesting, it then shows that my airplane's N# was changed to the N# of the donor airplane! I also left voicemail at (620)782...

Miles Most of mine have been custom crates that I built to fit, starting with a plywood base sitting on three 4x4's and then 2x4's on edge around the perimeter to support the walls (do that before mounting on the 4x4 skids). Most were also Jacobs radials with perhaps a lower CG, however, I shipped m...

Why don't you put the 3/4 on the pallet then mount the engine vertically with the prop flange up? That's what I've always done. Then you don't have any chance of the prop flange taking any side load bumps.

I've had a lot of success filling, sanding and painting them. Polyurethane or epoxy is best.

Sorry Jim, I looked at your profile and didn't see a name plus you don't have a name in your signature line. I just can't put together or remember everyone's N numbers with a name. My apologies.

Dave, How are your thermocouple extension cables sealed at the firewall? The parts to duplicate Cessna's wiring harness grommet installation (p 97, 170B IPC) run over $400 at Hill Aircraft. 8O 8O 8O Spruce sells similar-looking parts MUCH cheaper, but I don't know if they are "equal or better&...

c170b53 (I'd address you by name if you would reveal it) I have the Lycoming also and added an EI UBG with 16 channels a few years ago. It is really neat and maybe one of the best things I've ever added to any airplane. Miles has had some recent posts on it also. Do a search. I'll be back to Stuart ...

Eric I don't know if I should answer you since you're not a member  It was Dick Welsh, a retired Delta pilot. Used to live on Lake Sammamish and was tight with all the Aero-Dyne guys who were also Delta, or really pre Delta. In fact when Aero-Dyne shut down Dick and I almost bought the lot ...

Back in the '70's I built the tooling and cowlings for the 180hp conversion to the 15AC for a fellow who has become a lifelong friend. He was the Aeronca Sedan Type club for a number of years. With the 180hp Lycoming that is a splendid floatplane. I doubt very much the 170B could match it's performa...

The only case sealer I've used along with the silk thread in the last ten years or so is Loctite 515 or Yamabond (thin) available at Yamaha outboard shops. Both are similar products and set up in the absence of air. Gives you a nice working time. Since then never had any case leaks. Mixing the Perma...

I started control line when I was about 10 and learned RC in 1972. Still do RC, mostly scale power and some soaring but have not done much in the last year or so due to other activities.

Got my pilots license in 1975.
