Re: Engine Timing

That is the explanation I wanted. I know I didn't word the question right, just a little off that night!! Thanks. Has anyone ever timed one on 26L&R? (or 28/28)I'm working on an air boat. w/0-300A. I'm thinking that to run pump gas (reg) it actually needs to be 26 L&R. I know the 4 cylinder ...

Engine Timing

I found a PDF file that cleared up the timing issues with the 4 cyl and was wondering if there is similar information/procedures about the 0-300D to get the timing up on it. My 1961 172B had an AD on the cylinders complied with approx 375 hours before I purchased it. It has always run a little hot a...

Re: Valve Springs

I know a little about 6 cylinder engines and RPM, too. Here I am leaving the line @ 7,000 RPM In my National Record holding SuperStock Camaro. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eZPI6eCN8pE My V-6 is tough on valve springs. Shifting @ 9400-9600 and crossing the finish line @ over 9600 with valve lifts n...

Re: Valve Springs

Just to let you guys know I understand who I am and yes, I might be in a analysis paralysis mode. (my Wife loves to throw that term at me) I'm the type guy that will not go into something unless I have ample information. It is something my Mechanical Engineering background and my work dealing with p...

Re: Valve Springs

OK, quick lesson in machine work. When you grind a 45 degree seat angle on the cylinder a normal grind will remove .005 to .010 material unless each seat is worn bad. In that case you will replace the seat and cut/grind it to the correct height. If you do replace the seat & the valve there will ...

Re: Guess what Grandma asked me?

What a small world! Very familiar with the Tackett's. One of their outlaw relatives is a customer of mine. I've built some Boat Race and HP Harley engines for him. John Tackett. I think Max was his Uncle. John is also an "outlaw" pilot. His son, Cody, is helping a few of us guys get a Jet ...

Re: Valve Springs

No problem to test. I have the proper equipment at my shop. I even have on engine spring removal& spring height tools. I have my business where I machine and build race engines. I just needed the correct specs. The manual I bought was very incomplete. It was copies of an original manual. Lots of...

Valve Springs

Where can a guy get information about 0-300D valve springs? My engine has had an AD on the cylinders and I suspect the springs are not installed to the correct installed height and the pressure is down. I've bought an 0-300 engine CD & a manual, but they don't cover that info on the valve spring...

Re: O-300 Bent Cranks

I owned my own crank grinder for many years. I used it in my race Engine business. yes, you can grind a certain amount of bend out of a crank and you can correct the index & correct the stroke by grinding, but..... you can't grind metal into an area where it isn't and is supposed to be. I'm sayi...
