Sadly, sold 4490B
With sadness, I sold N4490B. It just made no economic sense to keep paying hangar rent and insurance while being grounded. That hangar rent was a budgert buster... The buyer, Scott Shields, will take good care of it. He lives in nearby Palm Beach County and has owned a 170B which was wrecked by Hurr...

Faster medical waivers ?
This just came on the AOPA newsletter. Could be good news for me and others- to quote the legendary Dr. Johnson-"Interesting if true..." Rudy HEART PATIENTS TO GET FASTER REISSUANCE FOR MEDICALS The Federal Air Surgeon has told AOPA that soon aviation medical examiners (AMEs) will be permi...

Cessna OE-2
In the January '06 issue of FLYING magazine, on the last page, p.100, "50 Years Ago" there's a photo of an L-19 (O-1) with what looks like a Cessna 185 empennage. The blurb states that it's an OE-2 built for the Marine Corps, has a Continental O-470-2 engine and "has a achieved a true...

Verification of Registration requirement-
The current EAA E-Hotline advises that aircraft owners have until Feb 1 '06 to verify that the registration information is current and correct. Otherwise the airplane may be denied access to the NAS (National Airspace System). Below is a link to check on your airplane. http://www.faa.gov/licenses_ce...

Russ, great IFR story. The 170 is one of the few airplanes small and economical enough to goof around the airport, do touch and go's and yet use for real transportation. ILS approaches in a 170 are FUN ! Fortunately, my altimeter is easily in the scan, which certainly makes life easier. A few years ...

I'm not a huge fan of Phil Boyer/ AOPA but it's the only lobby wev'e got and I'd hate to see them bite the dust. We can never compete with the military-industrial complex Ike warned us about. Same with the airlnes. Notice the new tough bankruptcy law applies to people who mainly file for relief due ...

I know for a fact that the Guatemalan Air Force had at least one 170. They wrecked it and the gentleman I went to work for rebuilt it for them. In return, they gave him a treasure trove: two Ryan STM's - like the civilian STA's, with Menasco engines, but the military single-seat version, and three W...
