Re: Air bubble of doom in gascolator!
Always having to use exscessive prime/accelerator pump not working, engine cutting out, air in gascalator that does not discipate through to the carb as it should with normal fuel head pressure from the tank: sounds like a malfunctioning carb/float issue to me.

interesting aviation videos
What was this guy thinking? reminds me of a bug being flushed down a toilet. Looks like a news helicopter. Anyone know any details related to this?

Re: A little something for blueldr
I am from Tennessee but I could not recommend George Dickle to anyone, Heck they don't even know how to spell whiskey, much less how to make it. They spell it "whisky" like they are foreigners or something. At least Jack Daniel's knows knows how to spell it "whiskey" and aren't t...

Re: Ignition switch ground
Radio shielding is not normally only grounded on one end. Who is saying this? There is no such thing as a ground loop on DC systems with a single ground. To have a ground loop you have to have multiple grounds with a difference of potential between two or more grounds. We only have ONE ground and NO...

Re: Oil Pressure Guidance
A small gas oven should be able to do the trick. I was thinking along the lines of an RV propane oven. I have read that a propane torch could be used but don't know of anyone that has tried it before or if that is just internet lore. It could be tested easily enough.

Re: Oil Pressure Guidance
A cheaper solution is to simply re-anneal the copper to remove any hardening and re-install the line. It can be done by baking part in your oven. Doesn't get much cheaper than that.

Re: STC, 337s for cessna 170
Under the "pilot's lounge" the first topic is "Photo album" click on that and you will find the link on how to post pictures. Is your landing strip on the reservation or just near it? It looks like a beautiful part of the country that I would love to explore if I ever get a chanc...

I don't have the larger tires but would like to see pictures of what you have installed. You may want to mention what type brakes you have etc. for a proper comparison. Pictures could also inspire others considering the same type of modification.

Re: Loss of a 170-B Sat. March 8, 2014
A thread was already started in the pilot's lounge. perhaps you have some insight into this accident and perhaps be able to answer some of the questions about it. I did not realize the aircraft was on final, I could see from the photos that the pilot pulled up abruptly to avoid the skydiver. See thi...

Re: Right Muffler Back Blew Out
I believe a backfire is through the intake. An afterfire is through the exhaust and yes it can blow your muffler apart. It is basically a small explosion in your exhaust due to fuel in the exhaust. I had this problem a few times on my plane while reducing power. It was due to an exhaust valve sticki...

Re: Rebuilt 300D loosing oil pressure
Sorry to hear that your problem is not the gasket. That would have been the simplist and least expensive cause to fix. The pump I believe is considered a positive displacement pump. The clearance of the crank bearings create the resistance to flow that allow the pump to build up pressure until it re...

Re: Rebuilt 300D loosing oil pressure
This problem most certainly can be caused by crankshaft bearings. The instance I witnessed firsthand was on a new engine that had been run too long without noticing that there was no oil pressure. the crank bearings were shot and even after the cause of the low oil pressure had been corrected the en...
