V Strut material
I have a small dent on the front side of my strut. I have examined it with a 20X magnifying glass and done a dye penetrant inspection. Both inspections show no signs of cracks. I have a NDT inspection scheduled for Wednesday. My question is. What type of material is the strut made from. Is it 4130 o...

Re: 1948 Cessna 170 Project.....Need parts
The one I had, the rib had been buckled but the upper and lower skins were good. I built some very small wood wedges and put them inside the wing tip and pushed the skins apart and straightening the bent rib. Once I had the shape back to what it was originally, I then reinforced the rib. If the skin...

Re: What have you done for your 170 today?
I put a update of my 48 on the site on Oct 31 /11. I have made up a photo album of the airplane from before the accedent and all the steps that it has taken to get it to where it is today. I was going to see if the pictures could be scanned and put onto a disk, if so then I will try to tell the comp...

ragwing project update
I am at about the 98% complete mark of the rebuild of the 48 ragwing, it seems the last 2% is the hardest and takes the longest. I have completed the engine instlation and ran it for the first time on Aug 14 / 11. I still have to do some full power assurance runs. I will have to wait untill next spr...

Re: some one year project progress photos
I have been working on my 48 project for years now and it is getting very close to being completed. Your project is looking very good and you have come a long way from the first picture. It is nice to see other people that are willing to do the rebuild to get what they want. I hope someday soon I wi...

Fuse placard
My fuse placard for the three left side fuses has worn off. I think they are for the Master, the turn and bank and the radio. I would like to know what they are, and what size before I order some 15 and 25 amp ones then find out I need something different.
Thanks

Fuel selector packings
Hello I have hit a couple of milestones in the rebuilding of the 170, about two weeks ago I installed battery for the firt time in , only to find out most of the fuses installed were the automotive style and they slide to far down the holder to make contact. Thanks to this forum I now know the part ...

Re: Lower Cowl Lip size
I was looking into the reason for the differance between the large lip on the ragwings and the early A modles. I was looking at some early pictures in a book on the history of Cessna. There is a picture of two 170A's one with a large lip and one with a small lip. The caption under the picture said t...

millennium cylinder spark plugs
I have just purchased a gently used pre owned C-145 from one of the members. It has Millennium cylinders. When I pulled #1 cyl spark plug to find TDC for the propeller instlation, I noticed there wasn't a copper washer or a crush gasket between the cyl and spark plug. All the plugs are the same way....

Re: A contest
I will throw in my two cents worth. The first thing that I believe is wrong are the springs, they are for the larger scott tail wheel the original springs for the small tail wheel had two springs one inside the other. The second thing that I think is wrong is there are two spring leaf clamps. Is the...

Re: Estimated Value on this 170??
I have to say WOW what a find. The interior of this aircraft is what I remeber mine to be before dad had it recovered in the 70's. I am going to be redoing mine in a gray and green leather, and would like to be as close to the original design as possible. Please take as many pictures as you can. As ...

Re: Original display of N-numbers - 1948
I am hoping to paint my 48 this summer, it will be done in the original paint scheme done in the original green. After seeing the black and white photo of NC2549V I would like to know if the Cessna logo on the tail is origina ? and was it green or black ? Are there any records kept by Cessna of the ...

Re: 9183A destroyed in hangar collapse
Hi Mark I sent in my membership application about two weeks ago, and I haven't recieved my new membership number in the mail at this time, so I cannot go to pages that are members only. I am very new at this, and I must admit I don't know all the language. I don't know what PM means Are we allowed t...

Re: 9183A destroyed in hangar collapse
Sorry to hear of the loss of your 170 and the other aircraft inthe hangar. I am new to the TIC170A and this is the first time I have ever posted anything onlie. My father bought our 1948 ragwing 170 sn 18116 back in 1956. I am told I had over 50 hrs. in the back seat before I was 6 years old. About ...
