Re: Rear seat weight
My stock 1949 "A" weighs 30 pounds.
On a similar note, maybe a dumb question. I took out my seat the other day and misplaced my bolts. Is this a big deal?

Re: Returning to the fold - opinions on this airplane
That aircraft is currently owned by a member of backcountrypilot.org named Pundy. He has a child with a medical condition which is why he selling the aircraft after owning it for such a short time.
Seems like a phenominal deal to me.

Re: Landing the '48
Well, when I come in, I am going about 65mph and I float it down to the surface and just let them touch with my hand on the throttle. If the plane slows down or drags, throttle back in and go. It's for off-airport or places like Willow that get real mucky at the end. I had the opportunity to re-conf...

Re: Looking to become a 170 owner
Well, as a follow up I have few updates. I have learned and felt that the wobble that I felt is somewhat inherent to Carb settings to local pilots I have met up here. I have met 3 locals that taught me to pull back the mixture as soon as I am on a good climb out and its gone. Something about the mix...

Re: Landing the '48
I am at almost 40 hours now in 33A and I must confess... 2 months of practicing and experimenting as hard as I can, I still don't really see the need/use of 3 points? At the Valdez Fly In (btw, look at the facebook pics... I am #1), a 185 driver said that I was crazy for trying wheel landings on the...

Cover panels on nose
This might be a dumb question but I can't find it in the owner manual or any of the other books I got. I just inherited two covers that go over the air filter and the other opening in the front of the plane under the prop. What is the purpose of these? The smaller of the two is placarded "Remov...

Re: Rosen Sun Visors
I have that exact piece that you have in picture 1, and that is where I get lost. That piece is on the side of my airplane where you would in a car call your "a" pillar. It is on the piece that has the airvents coming through it. Even if I had regular visors, I can't see that making sense....

Re: Rosen Sun Visors
Well, I think I just figured it out. I had to take the panel off that is in the upper corners of the windshield to fix the seal anyway, so I took that off and when I did it I noticed that there must have been some aftermarket sunvisors of some kind on there at one point, but the mounting angle is co...
