Re: Leather control yokes

I think if I was to leather wrap the yokes, I'd seek out a local custom upholstery shop to do it. DIY Kits never seem to have the same fit and finish as a pro doing it and I don't think the cost would be much more. I did leather wrap the outside corner of the yoke twice. Once sewn and once wrapped. ...

Re: Baggage door for a CE-170A

Later model 172,s have a bonded skin on to the door frame. Therefore the door doesn't have any rivets in it .i felt it was a better door structurally. As some one said is measure and measure and so on before cutting any metal . I skin clipped every thing before riveting . I was shown by a Cessna re...

A Garmin G5 will satisfy the DG requirement and provide so much more data at the same time.

It reminds me of the kids putting wing kits on the backs of their Honda Civics to improve performance.

Re: Friends don't let friends glue windshields

I'm on the fence with mine. The holes are in good shap and screws tend to rust. I guess with nut plates I could swap any screws that start corroding.

Re: Friends don't let friends glue windshields

I feel your pain. Mine was filled full of silicon as well. It took me over a day to get the trim piece off and a few more days to get all the silicon out.
Are you planning to re-rivet or put screws in?

Re: Intercom suggestions

My rear headphone wiring goes down under the floor. It was easy to route the wiring that way. Miles, were your headset jacks mounted vertically in your hat shelf? Would it be possible to mount them in the forward edge of the hat shelf? I never thought of that possibility. As I mentioned, mine are i...

Did you route the wires over head or under foot?

Re: Intercom suggestions

In 81D, I installed a Sigtronics SCI-4 with music and loved it so much that I bought another one for 95D. They are pricey but they perform rock solid. Don't underestimate the value of piping in some music either. For the rear plugs, I put them in the ashtray in 81D. I thought about the rear door pos...

Re: Garmin G5 STC'd for Certified Aircraft

The two G5 units are about 5 grand and replace your Horizon, Directional Gyro, Magnetic Compass and CDI for VFR or IFR flight. You can swap functionality between the units in case one happens to fail. That's still cheaper than buying all those separate instruments new and the vacuum system to drive ...

Re: Sage Advise Wanted Clean Plexiglas windscreen

I've had very good luck using Klasse All‑in‑One Polish and a micro fiber towel.
Cleans and also can work out minor scratches from paper towels. Also beads water off nicely.

I also used it on paint. Really brings out the shine.

Re: Strobe Question

Read up on strobe bulbs and make your own from common parts available from quality electric stores.
It's jus a strobe bulb and can be had for $5. Then fit it to the base that the burnt out one uses.

You could plug the drain hole and pour some MEK in there to soften things up.
