Compass deviation from yoke?
So I just got off the phone with my mechanic who was walking me through the items I still need to address for my owner assisted annual. One of the surprises he came up with was the fact that my compass indication has a deviation from the yoke position. Yoke full forward gives reading X, yoke full af...

Re: 2010 Nall report
"There are lies, damned lies, and statistics." I love this quote... Here's my take on the lie... A lot of t-draggers get banged up in ground operations and landings because they demand more attention in these phases. Ground loops frequently take over the conversation. While they are fairly...

Re: 2010 Nall report
I think those are two separate things though. Statistics give us very powerful tools that allow us to methodically direct limited resources to get the most impact. Sometimes they can even give us leading indicators to nip problems in the bud before they get out of hand. The fact that these powerful ...

Re: 2010 Nall report
Bruce, I would hope that would be categorized in the mechanical failure section of the report and not "pilot error from improper preflight torque of the cylinder base nuts". I can't and won't vouch for the accuracy of NTSB reporting but it seems to me even if you throw half of them out as ...

2010 Nall report
I was just browsing through the latest Nall accident report from AOPA and came across a few stats that I found worth sharing. They report that taildraggers represented about 45% of all non-commercial accidents in single engine fixed landing gear aircraft. "Ok, fine" I thought, that's a big...

Re: Flying with a Mac map
My brother had a tablet PC set up with an external GPS and XM weather. Like you said Bruce, it was a nice setup about 7 years ago. Today it's just clunky. I see you're choosing to "rise above" George's insinuations that folks with an affinity for terms like VM ware and COM3 ports should be...

Re: Flying with a Mac map
You're right, I misread the original post. But the cable worked great though.
I'll have to check out Virtual Box. That could come in handy.

Re: Flying with a Mac map
I used to have a GPS III that I downloaded maps to from a Macbook pro. I bought the usb to RS232 adapter that Bruce mentioned and had a copy of Parallels that ran Windows XP. The map software was the Garmin version that came with the unit. It worked pretty well until I sprung for the new Aera that u...

Re: ab-initio tail wheel training
I'm a big t-dragger fan but I honestly think a conscientious flight instructor turns students into good pilots, not the equipment.
I was fortunate and had both a great instructor in a citabria... which means I should be awesome...
Come to think of it, I guess it's no guarantee...

Nice text. I wish all butter bars were instilled with this mentality.
BTW. What do you have against officers? It would be a waste for all those nice golf courses to go unused.

Re: Tunnel damage from flap handle pivot
George, thankfully the latch is is in good shape. I read your post about it a few days ago and it's what got me thinking about the what-ifs for my problem. But I did have the flange welded because of the notorious crack. That was the reason for pulling it out in the first place.
