Re: Motorcycle Pics

Here's a pic of my '96 Ducati 900SS/SP (though not a recent one). I'll add a pic of my daily ride a bit later.

Plane is back in service!

Hello everyone, Just a quick note to say that the repairs were completed earlier this week and I picked up the airplane a couple of days ago. Running smooth and strong (and smoke free  ) once again, but still planning to replace the remaining three cylinders some time in the spring. Until then...

Re: Had a bad day

I don't have any access to mo-gas. I run 100LL and usually add a small amount of MMO. I also lean on the ground and in any cruise above 2000ft or so.

Re: Had a bad day

Hi folks, I had the opportunity to inspect the damage myself yesterday and speak with the mechanic who is working on my repairs. All appearances are that the damage was contained within the #3 cylinder. No damage to the pushrods, lifters, camshaft, etc. and no signs of metal in the oil or screen. Af...

Re: Had a bad day

I'm glad you and your family are safe. This could have been much worse. All the best, You bet it could've... I spoke to the mechanic today, he said the #3 cyl is cracked about 1/2 to 3/4 of the way around about an inch from the base! 8O That doesn't leave much material holding it together. I'm very...

Re: Had a bad day

Thanks for the support folks. I'll definitely keep you all posted as things develop. As a side note, this fateful flight was serving as a proving run to use my new iPad with WingX as a gps navi instead of my old Garmin 195. When we needed to find the Columbus airport, it was as easy as looking at th...

Had a bad day

So halfway through a 2-hr X/C jaunt from the Dayton, OH area to Evansville, IN yesterday with my wife and young daughter along, I began noticing a strong exhaust-type smell. I shut off the heater and things seemed to get better, reinforcing my suspicion that I must have a small exhaust leak someplac...

Re: Rear Seat

The cotter pin is a GREAT idea! I've already learned how to replace the rear plexiglass window from the first time I removed my seat  I have it out now for new carpet and seat belts. I'm going to do this mod as well. I'll even take photos for the newsletter. BTW, Mine tips in a 25 pounds with...

Re:

Rochester still makes the gauges for Cessna, for replacement use in a 170's. They are expensive when acquired thru Cessna, but they are the genuine product, and not all that out-of-line when compared to other, current prduction aircraft gauge prices. (Superceded PN is: 7083-00022 and costs about $2...

Re: C-145 crankshaft damper

As promised, here's a picture of my 8-hole flange with the 1/4" hole clearly visible. Since I clearly have a damper-equipped crankshaft from the previous pic, it looks like the 1/4" hole = non-dampered crank idea is not 100% accurate. I thought this might be helpful for future reference. -...

Re: Nose cowling

I've been misunderstood on this matter. It's not the nose bowl I dislike....it's the mechanical vacuum pump installation (which requires that 180/182/185 nosebowl ) that I dislike. The ugliness of that nose bowl is secondary, in my opinion. In fact, ...it's ANY installation of a dry-mechanica...

Re: C-145 crankshaft damper

All right then, it appears I have all the indications of a C-145-2H... I have the crank dampers, I have the provisions for the lever doo-hickey on the crankcase for a 2-position prop, I have a serial number with the letter "D". The only hiccup is that my 8-hole hub flange also has the 1/4&...

C-145 crankshaft damper

Continuing on the quest to positively identify my engine, can someone please answer the following... Is the item circled in this picture what is considered the 5th/6th order damper on the crankshaft, which would identify it as coming from a -2H model (as opposed to the -2) since it also has the 8 ho...

Re: Mystery engine component

I suspect you have a -2H engine (or perhaps a O-300-B) as others have noted. (Take a look at your engine data-plate and tell us which model engine you have.) The data plate says only "C-145", as does the first engine log book. Then suddenly in the 2nd engine logbook it's noted as "C-...
