Re: The Ultimate Short Field Take Off

AvWeb.com had a story about this about two weeks ago. I looked into the back story, its called the DoubleEnder. Basically, some of the shop guys from the Sherpa project and the CarbonCub factory got together and prototyped a twin engine Super Cub. Do a quick google search on it and look at the Super...

Re: Aft Tail Skin Fabrication

Best solution is to find/beg/borrow access to a sheet metal roller. A lot of community colleges or vocational schools still have metal working shops. They even probably have folks who know how to use the roller. Word of caution, it can be an expensive learning curve to try and just figure it out. Bu...

Re: Air-to-Air Photo Shoot

Doug, I am working on that. We've got three current 170 association members who are active duty USAF, instructing the next generation of Air Force "fighter"//"UAV" pilots in the T-38. I'm thinking that a three-ship of C-170s will look good; especially in a SW TX sunset... -Chris

Re: Air-to-Air Photo Shoot

That sounds like something I definately need to look into! I've also heard somewhere that navigable rivers, up to the high water mark, are considered public use as well. Does anybody know more about that?

Re: Air-to-Air Photo Shoot

Counsellj,

Just because our 92lb Chocolate lab has flown your plane too doesn't mean he does all the flying. I've only got him checked out in the pattern... I still have to do the formation flying... maybe I should put a cat/rabbit in the other plane

Re: Air-to-Air Photo Shoot

So, My wife did upload the photoshoot to her portfolio. For those of you who use Facebook (I don't, she does), you can check out just the Cessna photo's and like the Facebook page at : https://www.facebook.com/?ref=tn_tnmn#!/media/set/?set=a.208136222601594.54285.172099379538612&type=1 She says ...

Re: Air-to-Air Photo Shoot

Alright, okay... lots of questions to answer. Our dog Remy has flown with us in the airplane since he was nine weeks old. He loves to fly! When I go start the plane up for maintenance runs, or just a couple hops in the pattern, he gets frustrated if he is NOT in the plane. He thinks he is going to m...

Air-to-Air Photo Shoot

I recently had the opportunity to get a photo shoot done on our airplane. We had to run over to the neigborhood municipal airport for fuel, and one of the other guys on our field was needing to do the same. Since we both have extensive formation flying skills in our background, and my wife being a p...

Re: SPOT placement

My wife found that the SPOT fits in the side ashtrays nicely (as does an iphone), and we never had any issues tracking through the majority of Alaska. We had no tracking issues on a flight from Alaska to Texas. We have found that the newer SPOT that can bluetooth with a smartphone doesn't track as w...

You sure picked a nice day to go visit the in-laws!... never know what you'll see on the ramp; "that" is some of what makes "what" we do so much fun!

Re: Epic Student Cross Country

Thanks for the interest in the trip. I haven't had time to crunch all the numbers yet, but it took 32.9 hours of flight to cover 3,187nm... We averaged about 97 knots across the ground. I'll get fuel burn numbers for the O-360 as soon as I can tally all of the receipts. To see pictures of the trip, ...

Re: Epic Student Cross Country

We flew the Trench on Friday, and oddly enough, it was the only way along the route for good weather! The pass was smooth, with a high overcast layer at about 13k', with some popcorn Q in the mountains on both sides. We stopped in Mackenzie and were treated to the best hospitality of the trip so far...

Epic Student Cross Country

My wife Maria is working on her PPL, so we are using our move to Texas as an opportunity for her dual cross country. So she'll end up logging about 30ish hours more than she needs, but who else when they go in for their exam can say they flew from North Pole, Alaska to Del Rio, Texas?!? Talk about f...

Re: Alaska Pilots

Well if it's on film they actually did it... right??? They are also operators under license who's livelyhood's are being sensationalized. You can bet they are going to 'hype' the risk, and not actually do anything to risk thier license with the FAA. It is all about making the almighty dollar... But ...
