The most comfortable descent rate for passengers (i.e. non-pilots) is about 300 fpm. This is the rate used in most automatic pressurization systems on pressurized aircraft. Apparently your ears adjust slower to pressure changes descending then climbing.

Re: Oil cooler

I own a 1950 C-170A with a C145 engine. I am wanting to install an oil cooler to help with higher engine temps when pulling a glider. I would appreciate any assisstance that could be given as to accomplishing this. There seem to be no STC's for adding an oil cooler. Does anyone know of someone who ...

I have not towed with the C145, but have towed gliders with C170B with a 180hp Lyc. Even with the extra hp the 170 was a marginal tow plane for two reasons - 1) cooling, at the slow speeds used for glider towing (65-70mph) the cylinders heads get hot, even in cool weather. The 170 does not like the ...

It should not matter if it is on the compression or exhaust stroke, the prop will be in the same alignment relative to the crankshaft either way.

I got my torque wrench to work using a crows foot socket. Only works for that last eighth - quarter turn.

Spraying foam into the control surfaces doesn't sound like a good idea. For several reasons 1) it would effect the control surface balance 2) the foam would trap moisture resulting in a corrosion problem and 3) the FAA would frown on this procedure.

The early gear (serial 20267-25611) is part number 0541114. This gear is interchangable left and right. I don't now if the serial numbers include the ragwing.

Slick has a pretty good upgrade deal on there mags. If you switch to Slicks you get two new mags, new ingnition harness, and new spark plugs for about $1000.00 after rebate and your Bendix cores.

$4000.00 seems about right. A new Hartzell constant speed prop runs about $8000.

The old Flottorp (Aeromatic) props were originally approved, but they're obsolete now. I've also sometimes wished for a ground adjustable metal prop, or better yet, a Beech type electrically adjustable prop. It's really to bad they don't reintroduce a modern version of the Aeromatic, it seems there...

If this engine is the right Hp and price I would jump on it in a flash. I have owned 4 Hondas, and there engines are bulletproof, efficient and quiet. As long as they can keep TCM from screwing it up, it should be a great option, especially if it designed from the ground up to run on mogas.
