Re: Aspen EFD1000
Any experiences here with the GNS-480? It seems to be a far more capable unit than the 430/530 after a bit of research and can support a remote transponder as well. My ideal setup for a piano key panel would be a 480/420(or 430) combo, with the 480 driving a remote GTX-30 transponder and a PMA8000 f...

Shawn,
You said you drew this up in CAD, correct? I'd see if I could find a shop locally to laser or water jet cut it for you.

My dad taught me a few new words while trying to get the cowling off more than once. He capitulated and bought a skull cap shortly thereafter.

Re: N-Number Font
Glad to see that it looks good (great, actually) and I haven't steered anyone off a cliff...yet. Seeing it on a computer screen versus on an actual airplane is a big difference. Is that vinyl or paint, Arash?
Even though they are small differences, the impact is huge. You did a great job.

I've seen you on Flying Giants before, I believe. I think your RV6A is/was your avatar on there at one point. The username ExtraKatana is a little too coincidental for someone who doesn't fly R/C.
Beautiful airplane you've got! Congratulations!

Re: N-Number Font
2" checks with what I measured today. Length is about 11.5" but that will vary by n-number of course. I tried finding Amarillo USAF font on-line.....who knew they charge you to download a font. Crazy! I am hoping our mx backshop guys will be able to duplicate the tracing I did today, if n...

Re: N-Number Font
Amarillo USAF appears to be very close to the original font used. It's a freeware font, and can be downloaded from several sources. It can be used to make a vinyl mask to make your life easier. You may investigate more to make sure that the compression and letter spacing are correct, but it should b...

So does this mean his airplane is more or less as fast as a BLUE one?

Green AND red? Your airplane, though beautiful it is, will cause some disturbance in the force here.
Nevertheless, CONGRATULATIONS!

Shawn's zipper will run fore/aft, not across the cabin. I'm not sure how much that will allow him to see.

Re: 51 170A Instrument panel pieces and parts needed
David, Let me preface this by saying that I'm incredibly lazy. I don't like to cut anything by hand as it will never be symmetrical and perfect, and having learned CAD for my previous job, as well as knowing people that can cut things by either CNC, laser, or waterjet, I take full advantage of being...

Re: 51 170A Instrument panel pieces and parts needed
Admittedly, I'm not the sharpest knife in the drawer, but I started to draw that in CAD, and it appears to me there are some critical bits of information regarding the geometry of that hinge towards the top that is missing. Did you draw that and dimension it yourself, David, or is that drawing somet...

Re: 170 gone
So sorry to hear. Yours was a beautiful airplane from the pictures I've seen of her. I'm glad nobody was injured, but that is a scary set of circumstances under which that accident occurred, particularly for someone with as much tailwheel experience as I take it you have. I presume this was on pavem...

...And even more attractive solution would be to close the exit completely, toss the tailpipes, and replace them with the Bartone tailpipes which exit at the lower cowl opening forward of the firewall... George, What is the preferred method to cover the holes up if one were to change to the Bartone...
