Re: Aerocet 2200 floats
Is there an update on these Aerocet floats, i.e. price and availability?

Re: Tailwheel cables slack
I have been running an L19 spring for years now. The tailwheel chains are just barely slack with the tailwheel on the ground and they tighten up just a bit when in the flying position. As for the question about running 3 or 5 coil springs, this is what I was told by several sources. The thrust plate...

Re: To flap or not to flap
I have a 170B with stock engine BUT with an 80-42 prop. The prop may make a big difference here as it allows higher RPM and more HP to develop during the takeoff run. There is no way I could operate off some of the strips and gravel bars I do without popping the flaps at the end of the take off run....

Re: Landing gear repair
I'm I the only one who thinks it is completely ridiculous this company is charging $1200 per leg ($2400 a set) just to strip it, and tell you if it has cracks and is bent correctly? The local prop shop will do the same and even fix the prop for 850 and that is a lot more precision then a gear leg. ...

Re: N2814C bent
Boy after seeing those pictures, I really need to get some shoulder harnesses installed in mine. Don't know if they would have helped save that persons life...that was a really hard hit judging from the way the wings buckled and how the whole nose was buried. Just do it! Get the BAS inertial reel s...

Re: grimes rotating beacon
That is a nice installation and a good looking unit. However, there is no logical reason for something so simple to cost that much :( Due to the simplicity of the components and their costs that unit shouldn't (IMO) cost more than $100, but no doubt the cost of getting the STC/PMA and profit drives...

LED Alternative to Grimes Antique
Well, my Grimes rotating beacon was showing signs of distress so I looked around at the options. The Whelen LED beacon model 9052055 is one popular option but they are pretty large, almost the same size of the Grimes you are replacing. These are pretty spendy at $618 from Spruce plus you have to buy...

Re: grimes rotating beacon
I'd say about $100 to $125 for a working old beacon.

Re: V-Brace install help
Just came back from my IA who has a very well known shop at Birchwood doing 170's, 180's and 185's. He tells me that Alaskan field approvals are all pretty much dead now and the former reputation we had for getting things approved is gone. For example, he has done over 100 extended baggage installat...

Re: dual puck Clevelands
You are overthinking this. Double puck brakes are great and required for the Bush Wheels and they run fine on 800 or 850 size tires too. I have run double puck brakes on 800 size tires for years and have had no issues.

This time I agree with George, these are absolutely stunning examples of C-170s!! My hat is off to you for the amount of work it took to make those airplanes look that nice.

Re: Original Interior paint and fabric schemes
I have what I believe is still the original 1953 interior on mine that matches the Cessna 170 brochure George linked to above. The material is sun faded from 58 years of life. Notice how bright the red is under where the window latch covers it when closed. Portions of the door panels next to your sh...

Re: New Av Gas
Like I've been saying for the last sixty years, you're wasting your money putting av gas in the average GA airplane. Especially a stock engined C-170. My modified C-170B with a Continental IO- 360 ran beautifully on plain old 87 octane regular mogas, and the spark plugs NEVER had to be cleaned. The...

Re: Replacement axle for 170B
I'm going to have to replace the one axle on my 170B (1955). Lot of confussion on which part to use. Which is the best replacement axle and use my existing Cleveland wheel (600x6)? By "best" do you mean strongest? If so get the steel Airforms axles PMA'ed for C-170 thru C-185. If you ever...
