Re: Leaking Compass
Or save yourself all the grief and just buy a new compass. I installed a SIRS a few years ago and like it.

Re: Panel refurbishment - back to classic
My stall horn stopped working so I replaced it with a horn-only unit from an early-60s 172, mounted on the back of the glove box, as Bruce mentioned.

Pponk is only a reinforcement of the leg attachment. It’s a machined block that clamps over the gear leg end and hold down bolt head.

That's an impressive array of equipment, but far more impressive is that you really know how to use it. Beautiful work!

Re: Broken CHT - Replacement?
Reece, I’m guessing that the gauge uses a thermocouple sensor, as George suggested. Is the sensor a gasket that fits under the spark plug? Are the sensor wires color-coded? If red-white, it’s a J-type thermocouple. If red-yellow, it’s K-type. The only thing that can go wrong with a thermocouple is t...

Re: 0 360 engine to mount torque setting
Thanks for the write-up. I've got a few years before I have to do this job, but I remember what pain it was to install the mounts, even with the engine on the overhaul assembly stand.

Re: Tailwheel spring corrosion
If the stud thingy is missing, you can fit a short socket head cap screw head down, threaded end up through the hole in the shackle. 10-32, I think.

Great video, Kari. Nice collection of historical pictures of your airplane. I've been unable to find any pictures of mine from the first 20 years.

Re: Is a 6 Cylinder Engine Monitor Overkill on a O-300A
And how do we know that carbureted engines don’t run well lean of peak? Because we have engine monitor data that tells us. Without a monitor you don’t actually know what each cylinder in your engine is doing. I’ve heard of a few rare carbureted engines that have such even F/A ratios that they will r...

Re: Does anyone have an EI FP5L fuel computer?
I think the answer you're looking for is on page 10 of this manual ? Without trying it, it's hard to understand exactly what they're saying, but it looks like you can poke one button or another to increase or decrease the fuel remaining indication after fueling. My fuel flow and engine monitor are J...
