Re: Door latch repair

SO much easier to go in through the striker plate... don't even have to remove the door from the plane. Just saying...

Re: 2019 Cessna 170 Convention

Posting this in this thread just in case some didn't see the other thread. I took a few photos at the Doc tour, a few more at Stearman field, then got 4 landings and a takeoff at Beaumont, then all the landings at Cessna Field. This is my selection of the best shots.... I have entire landing sequenc...

Re: Bartone Exhaust

I talked to Pat yesterday (2/28/19) as a follow-up to an email expressing interest. He told me they have a shipment coming from west coast with the pipe material and they have placed a "half order" to be built, expecting them to be done in 4 weeks or so. I asked what a half order is and he...

Re: Wanted: Bartone Exhaust Extensions (merged topic)

I would also be interested in the Bartone/Benham style exhausts, if this becomes a going project.

Re: 1948 Landing Light Options

In earlier days, you could install a leading edge light based on the similarity to the ones installed on the A and B models, using a 337. There is one 337 on file at the TIC170A web page in the MX section. Not sure if the average FAA inspector will sign off on those any more without a DER approval, ...

Re: ELT Upgrade..?? ...or Not...??

Have read this entire thread (and don't want to re-start a philosophical debate about mandates and govt responsibilities). I find myself at a "good place" (getting a new paint job soon+ the old ELT is only partially working as only 1 of 2 antenna configs is functional) to replace my ancien...

Re: Door latch repair

Here is an alternate method of installation for the two tension spring method of repair that does not require removing the latch from the door. When I took my co-pilot door off, I found the striker plate to already be missing...shows you how much that door gets used and how little attention I've pa...

Re: Instrument light sockets

Regarding the instrument light sockets, Neal Wright on the Cessna 120-140 website was able to locate them for me. They are made by SPC Technology, Type LSL-11-151U and are available from Newark.com. Newark's p/n for the socket is 81N2568. .... Sorry to revive an old thread, but here is some updated...

Re: Tall pilot in a 170?

If you have two big people upfront just watch the forward CG if you have full tanks, I think you will be right on the envelope edge or outside it even, Yep, but since it is requirement to calculate check W&B before each and every flight, I am sure we would all catch that loading condition, righ...

Re: Tall pilot in a 170?

Well, not that model, but a little King Air time and I got to do three weeks in a sim in Miami for the Pilot Initial for the B757. The sad truth is that, no matter large the vehicle (plane, tank, truck, ocean liner, etc.) the cockpit is nearly always designed for the 95th percentile person...which I...

Re: Tall pilot - Brent

I am 6'9" and weigh 320, and I have been flying a stock A model since 1982. Ironically, the C-195 may not really be an option for a very tall pilot. For some of us, the limitation is knee rook under the panel or, in the case of a C-195 or Bonanzas, the external yoke often interferes with knees ...

Re: Seat Interchange Options

I have reclining seats from a 1964 Skyhawk and they are great with the exception of ,as Bruce mentioned, removal from the front. Mary loves that reclining thing though. It is also great when you have to set down at an unattended airport for a couple hours waiting for weather to pass....just flip it...
