Re: Memorial Day - the Most Expensive Holiday
Those 2 guys ahead of the howitzer are the pilots! Good incentive for them to make a nice landing!

Re: different engines in 170,s
It’s scary to look at the motor mount structure behind the firewall of a C180 or 185 with the O-470 and IO-520. There isn’t much metal there to carry the weight and thrust combination of the larger engines, just a hat-channel stringer riveted to the skin in 4 places with a bracket for the motor moun...

Re: Fuel Flow transducer installation
I had the glass bowl and was happy with it until it became difficult to get a gasket to seal the bowl without weeping. I them converted to the Steve's gascolator and it's working just fine.

Re: Changes for TX & OK Feb. Fly-in
Thanks Ken! I should be able to make it on Feb 10. I was not going to be able to make Feb 3. I'll probably be flying a non-C170 though, the 170 is in for annual.

Re: 2 1/4" instruments on the stationary sub panel
When I had EI instruments installed, we took a Dremel tool and carefully enlarged the undersized holes to take the 2-1/4" EI instruments. There is still enough of the rounded edges left to still look good. It throws lots of chips so mask everything as best you can. I have never had a problem wi...

Re: School me on Venturi horns
The new digital instruments that replace vacuum instruments may not be all that much more expensive than converting over to venturis when its all said and done. If no venturis were ever installed on your plane no new holes in the fuselage would be required with the new digital stuff either.

Re: I'm Tall Are There Short Seat Frames Available
I'm 6'6" tall and with original seats installed I can kind of fit my hand between my head and the original headliner. With a headset on it touches the headliner lightly........ ........Are there any compatible seats which have shorter frames? Seems like I read here somewhere here that 206 midd...

Re: Harmonic Balancer Stuck?
Try taking the prop off and reinstalling it 180 degrees out. That was accidentally done on my O300-D at one annual which caused an unusual vibration which disappeared when turned 180 degrees back to where it was originally.

Thanks Karl, I just saved it to "Documents" in Foreflight so I don't have to search for it when I get there.

Re: Donaldson air filter
An issue I discovered with Brackett filters has to do with age. Brackett air filter elements have an expiration date shown on the package. They have a course mesh foam side and a fine mesh foam side. The fine mesh side goes toward the engine, the final filter before the carb. I bought a bracket filt...

Re: Single place rear seat in 170B
I have a 1953 170B. I removed the rear bench seat a few years ago and had A&P give me rear seat removed new weight and balance. I now have a nice, expanded cargo area with tie down nets. But it would be nice to have a single place rear seat for occasional use. Does anyone know of such a seat th...

Re: Battery
I spoke with the Concorde rep yesterday at the Alaska aviation trade show. My question to him was, if you leave the master switch on and run the battery completely down, how many times can you do that and get away with recharging the battery back to 100%? His answer was, depends. Depends on how long...

Re: 2023 Cessna 170 Convention, Sault Ste. Marie Michigan
For anyone wanting to rent a car for the convention, Damon at Soo Line Limo in Kinross, 906-0635-0427, www.soolinelimo.com, has a few Buick Encore SUVs for $77/day. July is peak season so early reservations are necessary and the rates are high but $50/day less than Enterprise. Damon will either deli...
