Finally getting time to let folks know that I did have a very good experience with Bevan-Rabell. They did not ask for any money until they had a chance to look at my KLN-88. Honeywell would not open my shipping box until they had a credit card authorization for $295.....their MINIMUM charge for any ...

I called Bevan-Rabell and I was handed off to someone who actually spoke as if he knew something of avionics. I was informed that my KLN-88 could be brought back to life for $190, so my unit is on the way to Wichita. I don't think I'll be playing ball with King/Bendix/Honeywell anymore with prices l...

I suppose I'll make the "to polish or not to polish" decision once I have the aircraft stripped sometime next year. If the surface is in good condition I may go the polished route, but I fear that in many places the aluminium top layer may have worn away and I'd have unprotected alloy expo...

I'm now looking at getting rid of the "Billy Bob" paint job on my machine. After reading the research on commercial paint jobs on another thread and hearing of the quality variation and ungodly high prices, I'm considering doing this job myself. The advice on this thread is somewhat dated ...

I don't have a picture yet, but you are correct in that the stack is offset to the right of center just enough to clear the tall center column, and the top of the stack starts lower than traditional center stack panels to prevent the top radio from fouling the horizontal control tube. This lower sta...

I saw a friend's 170 down in FL earlier this year that had a neat center stack panel in which the top of the center stack was low enough to permit clearance for the original "T" configuration control rack and still provided a lot of room for radio equipment in a more modern and safe layout...

Thanks for the tip concerning the CPA. I am in the eastern panhandle of West VA. Do you know of one in this area? Ahaaaa :!: I had not thought of the elevator halves being out of rig. I'll check this today. We have gone over all of the simple stuff in the past year or two. The rudder has been checke...

Not what I wanted to hear this morning, but now things make a bit more sense. I assumed (yes I know what that made me 8O ) that the memory battery was only associated with the user stored waypoints. Now I understand why the unit seems to take forever to initialize, and when I look on the status page...

Well I'll just renew this thread as well. I've pretty much decided to keep my 170 and not build a Bearhawk so I'm going to start looking into correcting some of the long standing problems. My aircraft also has a very heavy left wing. With equal fuel levels in each tank and ball centered, the left wi...

Well I have another problem with our friends at Bendix/Honeywell and need some advise. All of my radios have been working just fine so the KX-155 and KI-209 is indeed a good choice. The problem now is my trusty KLN-88 loran receiver. I get a message "internal battery low" each time I power...

Funseventy...can you clue me in on the Lycon O-300 at 160+hp? Do you have the contact information and the location. My O-300 is starting to head downhill and I've ruled out a conversion as I will not be able to recoup the expense upon resale. Maybe hanging on to my 170 for three more years as I make...

I also do Angel Flights and I would write off this expense. That is the neat thing about Angel Flight....you can help other people while you help yourself...one of the few win-win situations still out there in aviation world. Glad to see someone else doing Angel Flights in their trusty 170. I love t...

Thought I would light this line off again. I was flying CAP Cadets a couple of weeks ago when my tailwheel went flat during taxi. I shut down and pushed the aircraft off the taxiway to keep from damaging the wheel. A mechanic came out to help and found that the tube had become pinched and abraded ne...

So if everybody is getting rid of the NAV/COMS for COM units...how do you shoot that VOR or ILS approach? You can use an IFR GPS for the VOR approach...but it is only legal to do so if you have the ability to return to standard VOR navigation in the event of a GPS failure. Don't have a VOR receiver?...

Hummm...unless I misread my IPC, it calls for 2 of the small gaskets and 1 large gasket per tank. I went back together with one small gasket and above and one below the tank. The small rubber washers that go under each of the 6 filler adapter screws prevent overtorque and damage to the adapter. The ...
