Re: Original markings

I believe it is the original '53 scheme. It was just painted over with the blue. The original red is still visible underneath in some spots. I just don't know where the decals went and which way they go. I see on George's pic that the bird faces backwards. I have seen them both ways. Also I have a c...

Original markings

Well I have decided to leave my beloved B model in the hands of a professional aircraft paint shop. Gone will be the polished aluminum look and in with a fully painted aircraft. It was too much work to keep up for a floatplane that's never seen the inside of a hangar. I do want to keep the original ...

Re: Nose cap assembly

Oouch! $1800 is a little more than I was hoping to pay. Guess i'll keep the one I have until I find a good one from salvage. Mine is pretty bad so I really need to do something eventually.

Nose cap assembly

I will be doing some cleaning, stripping, prepping and painting of my aircraft soon. Before I do any of that I have decided to do away with the upper and lower nose cap assemblies as they are full of cracks that have been drilled out and previous repairs that have been done over the years. These are...

Re: Am I getting ripped off?

Thanks to everyone for the quick replies. I am now reassured that I was billed correctly. Doesn't hurt to ask those who have more experience on the subject  As for the paint it is only the aircraft and not the floats as they are like new. I will change over to wheels in October. There is a bit...

Am I getting ripped off?

Hi there, I just received a bill for a few services performed on my 170 this week. They seem to have spent a lot of time on just a few items. I had most of the annual done in February but before I pick up the plane for the float season they drain the 2F fluid, add W100+ oil and Av Blend, Install the...

I believe it's whatever the speed is with the trim all the way back. Speed is controlled by your elevator, not your throttle. Therefore if you are in level flight at 100 mph and your engine fails, you will continue to fly at 100 mph until you retrim. As far as I know if you trim full up and let ever...

Did someone mention the Gimli glider? Ironically Air Canada just retired her last week. Fin 604 did a final fly-by leaving Montreal for MHV on January 27th. They used the call sign "the Air Canada glider".

Well, i've been gone a couple days flying and see now that I have stirred up a bit of a debate. I never intended to hide the engines history, which is pretty much unknown. As a relative newbe to the aircraft ownership thing I was just curious as to what can be done with such an engine, if anything. ...

Guess that means I will use it to teach myself how to take an engine apart and practice putting it back together. Thanks all for your input.

Already in the process of grabbing it
They also have a small very light weight 400 hp Allison turbine. Who's looking for short field performance?

O-300C sitting for years...

I came across an O-300C with an 8 hole crankshaft (from an A?). It has been sitting in a temperature controlled room in a maintenance school but has no oil in it. The school is closing and getting rid of everything so I can get this engine for free. It has no logs and the ID plate is practically unr...

I was considering installing a transponder which is required to cross the border, but now I guess I won't bother with it.
