Re: Flap handle
Bruce, that other handle is for the hydraulic ski pump. You are right that the purpose of this handle is to make it easier to get to the first two flap settings and it can be used or not. I don't have inertia reel shoulder harnesses which makes it necessary to loosen it to reach the flap lever. Duri...

Flap handle
Low cost solution to reach the 10 & 20 degree flap settings. I consider this to be a minor change per Part 21.93(a)

Re: AV-30-C
I haven't flown with the AV-30-C much but I think it is a great instrument. It has a lot of features but since my 170B is a VFR aircraft I kept the installation simple. I removed the entire vacuum system and just hooked up 12v power and the pitot and static lines. I'm not concerned about the battery...

AV-30-C
I treated myself to the AV-30-C after my vacuum pump went belly up. My AH and DG also needed overhaul. I removed the entire vacuum system, gained a few pounds of useful load and have a fancy instrument in the panel.

Re: Moving in and out of Hanger
I put mine in the hangar nose first. I use a towbar attached to the tailwheel to push it in/pull it out with a 1988 Ford Bronco ll. This probably won't work if you have a T hangar.

I'm bored
Took Murphy for a ride in the 170 a couple of days ago. Looks like he got bored. I think he wants the US/Canada border open so he can take the 180 to our camp in Northern Ontario.

AWB 2500 hydraulic skis
I recently got a call member Ron Smith from Anchorage, AK looking for the blueprints to install AWB 2500 skis on his 170B. He couldn't find them on the association's website. I mailed the prints to him & he had copies made & also a PDF file. (Thanks, Ron) I just searched the forum & foun...

Re: Places to visit in the Michigan UP?
The Canadian Bushplane Heritage Centre (http://www.bushplane.com) in Sault Ste. Marie, ON is a must see. It is in the old Ontario Provincial Air Service hangar on the Saint Mary's river. I was there last week with my 12 year old grandson. We were on our way home from my camp in Ontario with the 180 ...

Re: Reason 127 why Franklin engine conversions are a bad ide
I installed a Lycoming 0-360 in my 170B in 2004 using the Del-air conversion. Maybe I'm lucky but I have almost 4700 hours since then and the cowling looks good. No windshield cracks either. I think the Del-air conversion is better than the Avcon, at least the nose cowl is a lot better looking.
