Re: I0-360 STC discussion?

This really is a great discussion and an informative exercise for me anyway. I just love tinkering with airplanes and enjoy spinning wrenches as much or in some cases more than flying them. The read on owner produced parts was helpful too. For me I’m about half way (I hope) through my current C-145’...

Re: most common 180ph upgrade?

If the association for example, was able to purchase the STC from it's current holder, then as I understand it, the association could pass that to members licensed for their particular airplane. The initial seed money might be able to pool enough cash for a purchase. Of course the current STC owner ...

Re: most common 180ph upgrade?

Gents, As I’ve been reading all the posts relating to putting the continental IO-360 in our 170's it occurs to me that many members probably face the same situation that I do – not having the financial resources to get an STC purchased where available, and then contract with companies to do all the ...

Re: Negotiating a sale - setting a value

Tim, Funny you mention that... The 170 is the only good decision I've made with regard to airplanes. My first was a 1974 - 182P, great airplane. Then I had the really stupid idea of selling it, buying a twin and opening a charter business - all the while having a real job. Well, I sold the 182, boug...

Re: Negotiating a sale - setting a value

Charley, If your in the Northeast, or anywhere for that matter - you might consider stopping in to see one of the members and their airplanes. You can pick up on all the stuff we have battled with over the years as well as had great luck with. Most who have had these 170's for a while can point you ...

Re: HSI Question

It's only been 3 years since O/H, and a new filter last year. I'll check the plumbing, regulator and filter first but you guys may be right that it's time for an overhaul. It is happening both in cruise and ground operations which makes it harder to pinpoint. Not that electronic stuff dosent go sout...

Re: Fuselage Support

Thanks for the suggestions and pictures everyone. And Bruce the wheel method makes perfect sense although in addition to leveling for rigging, this year I’m pulling the wheels, wheel fairing mounting plates, etc. so having both wheels off at the same time without beating up the gear legs will be nic...

HSI Question

I have a Century NSD360A HSI in the 170. It runs off the left side Venturi, has a regulator set to 5"/hg and is fed NAV info from the Garmin SL30. Over the last few weeks it's been behaving strangely in 2 ways: 1) Flying along straight and lever, pick a heading, say 180. The heading card reads ...

Fuselage Support

Evening... I was thinking of making a fuselage support that is essentially pieces of plywood cut to the shape of the fuselage between the gear legs. If I cut it to match the couture between the gear legs, make it slightly wider than the box that supports the gear legs and pad it with carpeting - doe...

Re: Fuel Tank Repairs

Hi Gary, I think they would be to tall. As built, that bracket's inside dimension is only about a 1/4" tall and with a screw of 3/8" length it comes right up flush with the top surface of the nutplate. The 1/2" screws I had installed protruded enough (about 1/8") out of the top o...

Fuel Tank Bay Repairs

Sorry - this needs to be in the "Hanger" and I can't figure out how to move a draft from one forum to another... 60 Mod: You can't move it but I can  During the last annual we addressed the continuing contamination of our right fuel tank. I decided to pull the tank, clean it, prep th...

Fuel Tank Repairs

Some recent discussions on Fuel Tank repairs prompted me to post a few notes and pictures of how our plane did last year. My younger son Marc and I did the work and it went OK. The notes everyone has posted on removing the screws is great advice. We pre-soaked starting a week before with a little sp...
